Celebrating the release of I’ll Have Some Of That, their first studio album in 34 years, the Babys invited a few friends, family and members of the press corp for a meet and greet with plenty of photo ops before taking up their instruments and playing a few songs.
The Babys, featuring original drummer Tony Brock, original guitarist Wally Stocker, singer and bassist John Bisaha and rhythm guitarist Joey Sykes, hit the stage a little after 9:00 PM for a brief, yet rousing set.
Joined by the back-up singing Babettes (Holly Bisaha and Elisa Chadbourne), they ran through favorites “Midnight Rendezvous,” “Isn’t It Time” and “Every Time I think Of You,” alongside new songs “Sunrise & Goodbyes” and “I See You There,” which both slid seamlessly into the Babys’ potent cache of solid rockers and power ballads.
The set ended with the blistering “Head First.” Overcoming the challenges of a small stage, the Babys gave an inspiring, arena-size performance. Big tours and festivals are most definitely in the works as the word on I’ll Have Some Of That continues to spread.
