When it comes to Pink Floyd’s tenth album Animals, I can’t get enough. Whether it’s the long-awaited remaster and remix, bootleg recordings from the tour, or high-priced memorabilia, I am like a dog with a bone (if you will excuse the pun) when it comes to this record. Which is why I all but gobbled up Glenn Povey’s hardcover book, Pink Floyd Animals: A Visual History.

The facts on the making of the album, a detailed overview of the 1977 Animals tour, an extensive discography that includes all the bootlegs recorded from the tour, and images of their often-imaginative covers all make this book the best I have seen yet about this period of the band’s history.

The visuals of the band on stage at the time and rare promo pieces really got me salivating. Povey has unearthed some really astonishing eye candy — you can tell how much he loves this era of the band’s output. Pink Floyd Animals: A Visual History is an excellent way for any Floyd faithful to relive the album’s stark, heavy songs, pore over some rare pictures, and learn about its history, all in one finely rendered artifact. If you’re  excited about the Animals reissue, this book will certainly whet your appetite.
