Celebrating 40 years, Toto spent much of 2018 and 2019 touring Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, even Indonesia. To document the milestone, Eagle Rock has released the band’s 2018 concert at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on DVD, Blu-ray Disc and other digital video formats. Titled 40 Tours Around The Sun, the set is also available on CD and vinyl.
The show sees the band covering wide span of their catalog, including hit singles, deep cuts , and even a couple of new numbers. The core band — guitarist and vocalist Steve Lukather, keyboardist and vocalist David Paich, keyboardist Steve Porcaro, and singer Joseph Williams — are joined by drummer Shannon Forerest, percussionist Lenny Castro, bassist Shem Von Schroeck, and saxophonist Warren Ham for 25-song set that has the Amsterdam audience on their feet.
While highlights abound, there’s nothing like seeing the audience and band connect during what is arguably their greatest hit, “Africa,” as the show winds down. It’s one of those concert moments you wish you could have seen in person. With Toto on indefinite hiatus, it‘s hard to say if or when anyone will see the band playing at the caliber captured on 40 Tours Around The Sun. If this is truly the end of Toto as we know them, they’re going out on a super high.
