The Beatles | Box Of Vision – Book Review

Praise for the remastered Beatles catalog released on September 9, 2009, has practically been universal. If you picked up either one of the box sets, you may already be proudly displaying the remasters on your mantel, regaling those within earshot about how you own the original catalog on vinyl, but now have it all trapped in one tidy place. Those who purchased the remasters individually may not have the same advantage — their CDs are merely buffing out the “B” section of the shelf. If you want to take it a little further, however, you need vision; more specifically, you need a Box Of Vision.

Officially licensed by Apple Corps Ltd., The Beatles Box Of Vision is an all-in-one storage vessel for all your Beatles CDs. It looks much more impressive than either one of the box sets. You also get two magnificent books to complement your CDs. The Album Artwork Book is a 200-page hardcover the size of an LP. There are new, beautiful art prints of all the U.K. and U.S. Beatles albums — from Please Please Me to Love — including the front covers, back covers, gatefolds, inserts, even the complete booklets from Magical Mystery Tour, Let It Be…Naked and Love. The second book — the Catalography — is an annotated color discography with an introduction by Bruce Spizer (who’s written extensively about the Fab Four), photos, album covers, track listings and notes that present the U.K. and U.S. albums.

From across the room, the black, linen-covered 13” x 13” Box Of Vision itself may look like a stack of Beatle albums, but inside there are storage pockets designed to house 32 Beatles CDs. You can insert CDs and booklets from either the 1987 releases or the 2009 remasters. There’s even room for the remasters’ digipacks if you’re feeling extra ambitious. Aside from the convenience of having your Beatles collection in one spot, you’ll feel more secure knowing the CDs are comfortably nestled in soft, user-friendly pockets — preferable to the tight-fitting traps on the digipacks.

Once you have it all together, you’ll want to invite your friends and family over for Beatles night. They’ll marvel at your collection, turning each page to view one of the most coveted bodies of work in the world. This is an excellent keepsake for any Beatle maniac, and a perfect gift for anyone with a few Beatles CDs lying around.
