Cheap Trick’s show in Las Vegas was a nostalgic journey through the band’s extensive career, featuring hits from different eras, spanning from their early days in the 1970s to their most recent album, 2021’s In Another World.
The band, which includes original members — guitarist Rick Nielsen, singer and guitarist Robin Zander, and bassist Tom Petersson, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Known for switching things up in concert, they have also performed classic albums like The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, which they did at a series of Las Vegas shows more than a decade ago.
At the Westgate, They delivered an electrifying performance that showcased their signature power pop and rock sound. Classics like “The Flame,” “Heaven Tonight” and “Dream Police” were some of the many favorites played during the night.
Other highlights included an energized “I Want You to Want Me” and bassist Petersson’s “I Know What I Want.” Robin Taylor Zander, Robin Zanders’s son, took the vocal spotlight for the band’s time-honored classic “Downed.”
Nielsen’s guitar collection and solos were showcased throughout the night. He also flipped any number of guitar picks into the crowd. Drummer Daxx Nielsen and Petersson provided a solid back beat that was consistent throughout the show, while Zander showed that his vocals continue to be the highlight.
Overall, Cheap Trick’s performance at the Westgate was a testament to their status as rock ‘n’ roll legends. Their ability to connect with fans, both old and new, through their music and stage presence is what keeps them relevant and beloved after all these years.
