One of more novel compilations of 2003 was Mullets Rock, a double disc that remarkably captures the rock n’ roll spirit of everyday Joes like you and me and especially that guy in your neighborhood who drives a pick-up, drinks two or three tall Buds on a daily basis, and sports a quirky hairstyle that’s short in front and long in the back.
The music is like a Mullethead’s wet dream: Mountain’s “Mississippi Queen,” Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water,” Foghat’s “Slow Ride,” BTO’s “Takin’ Care Of Business,” Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out,” and 30 others your ears have probably been bludgeoned to death with.
You gotta love it! By golly, if any FM radio station had a playlist like this, they could triple their commercial interruptions. Well, probably not now. Undoubtedly, as new generations learn about the classic rock era, they have numerous choices. You could call a compilation like Mullets Rock (and its companion Mullets Rock! Too! – Mullets In Love) the CliffsNotes of classic rock. A no nonsense, cut-to-the-chase, collection that serves as a total representation of the times, the style, and…that awful haircut.
