For the second year in a row, Ultimate NAMM Jam on the second floor of the Anaheim Hilton was THE place to be to see the brightest and best musicians in town. Over 90 artists were slated to appear, including Steve Vai, Billy Sheehan, Gregg Bissonette, Jeff Scott Soto, Tony Franklin, Doug Aldrich, Phil X, Stu Hamm, Charlie Benate, Rikki Rockett and many more. There were also full band performances by Flotsam & Jetsam, Sweet, and Marco Mendoza’s El Trio. Though David Lee Roth was a no-show, Vai, Sheehan, Bissonette, and Soto tackled Queen’s “Tie Your Mother Down” and “Shy Boy” from Roth’s 1986 album Eat ‘Em and Smile. Other highlights included Zebra guitarist and vocalist Randy Jackson and drummer Guy Gelso rocking through their 1983 hit “Tell Me What You Want,” and Mitch Perry, Brent Woods, Carmine Appice rumbling through a feisty, snarling version of Humble Pie’s “I Don’t Need No Doctor,” with Debby Holiday on vocals.
