Live At Montreux
| "We all came down to Montreux"...
Who can forget those immortal words from Deep Purple,
who not only recorded "Smoke On The Water" in the enchanting
Swiss town — they also played the famous Montreux Jazz Festival.
Situated on the Swiss Riviera, the festival started out as a three-day
jazz event in 1967 and has blossomed into a two-week affair, featuring
a diversity of acts ranging from Herbie Hancock to Radiohead. Beloved
concert organizer Claude Nobs had the foresight to film and record the
shows, documenting some killer one-of-a-kind performances. Nobs, like
other resourceful music impresarios, has parlayed his collection of
vintage footage and recordings, all remarkably well preserved, into
commercially available DVDs. As more Live At Montreux
releases roll off the assembly line, we've reviewed a few random titles
you may want to check out.
