The Dream Weaver Returns
Legendary
singer/keyboardist Gary Wright is on a creative roll — busy writing and
recording new music, playing solo gigs and touring with the band he co-found
in 1967, Spooky Tooth. There’s a lot more to the man who hit the top of
charts in the mid 70s with his all-keyboard opus, “Dream Weaver”
than one may suspect, and our exclusive interview attempts to cover every nook
and cranny. During our chat, Wright talked openly about his new music, his early
days with Spooky Tooth, his success as a solo artist, his working process and
his close friendship with George Harrison. Join us for a glimpse into one of
music’s most enduring figures. After you read the interview, be sure to
check out our review of his latest album and EP.
Foreigner's Mick Jones Sees 'No End In Sight'
Formed
in 1976, Foreigner became a hit machine during the 70s and 80s, scoring over
a dozen Top 20 singles and selling over 50 million records worldwide. Today,
with sole original member and guitarist Mick Jones at the helm, Foreigner is
now a touring machine. In between gigs, however, they've been laying down tracks
for what will become the first new Foreigner studio album in 15 years. Vintage
Rock chatted with Jones about the band's new music, new members he's recruited
to help refine and modernize the sound, and the salad years with singer Lou
Gramm. You can read all about it by clicking on the link below. While you're
at it, be sure to enter our special Foreigner Prize Package, which includes
the double CD set No End In Sight: The Very Best Of Foreigner
and the brand new DVD release Soundstage: Foreigner - Live.
Tower of Power: Four Decades of Urban Soul
Emerging
from the psychedelic haze of late 60s San Francisco, Tower of Power has been
dealt, over the course of 40 soulful years, their share of ups and downs. Their
stellar horn section stayed gainfully employed during the lean times by the
likes of Elton John, Phil Collins, Toto, and Huey Lewis and the News, but the
group stuck it out and reactivated. Now, with a new album on their own label,
a heavy touring schedule, and a positive outlook, Tower of Power is on the move
and ready to groove once again. Vintage Rock had the privilege of speaking with
Emilio Castillo, TOP co-founder and second tenor sax, about the new album and
the group’s unparalleled career. After reading through the interview,
be sure to check out our review of the latest Tower of Power album, Great
American Soulbook.
